April Ross

April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball players to have won medals at least twice in an Olympics. She will be competing in Tokyo for her third Olympic medal alongside Alix Klineman, a first-time Olympian. Ross's dream is to earn her first Olympic gold medal. In fact, at 39, it could be her last chance to do so. She's certain that the top prizes can be achieved. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that If the team is performing well or at all they can earn a gold. So I'm going to take a little bit of luck as well. Ross was born in California in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her family lived in the area with her father, mother and sister. Ross competed in many activities while at Newport Harbor High School. While a prep student she was a participant in indoor volleyball along with basketball and track. Thanks to her hard work she was named an 1999 Gatorade International Player of the year in Circle of Champions. Also, in 2000 she was awarded the Orange County Athlete of the Year for volleyball. Ross and Klineman might have begun working together in the year 2017, however Ross was an experienced volleyball player before they teamed up. In fact, she's won numerous events, and one was won by a legendary volleyball player. The pair teamed along with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and also was Klineman's personal trainer. Together, Kessy Ross was a force in the world circuit, winning an international title in 2009. At the 2012 Olympic Games, they won the gold medal. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the trio to beat out for gold. It was fate that had them. Ross turned out to be Walsh Jennings' new partner as May-Treanor stepped down. The pair took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross participated in the Trojans of USC in her the college years following her graduation from in high school. Her career was a success through college. In 2000, she was named Pac-10 Freshman and NCAA Freshman Of The Year. She was also named an All-American. She was a fantastic volleyball player, winning the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the most outstanding female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross was never able to see her daughter reach the top of the beach volleyball ladder. Ross's mom passed away due to breast cancer when she was a sophomore in USC. She continues to cherish her late parent. And Margie remains a source of encouragement for her on the beach as well as in everyday her daily life.
